About The Role
The Resource Planner is a critical role responsible for ensuring the rail network and yard operations are resourced safely, effectively, and efficiently. Sitting at the heart of the rail operating model, this role supports strategically planning and rostering key operational roles, including Network Locomotive Drivers, Train Examiners, and Supervisors.
You’ll play a key part in balancing operational demand, workforce capability, and compliance requirements to ensure the right people are in the right place at the right time. This role requires close collaboration with site-based teams, operational leaders, project groups, and training stakeholders to align plans with broader business priorities.
The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, be comfortable with scheduling systems, and be confident engaging across a wide range of stakeholders.
Some site travel may be required from time to time to support planning activities, build relationships with frontline teams, and understand operational contexts first-hand.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and manage daily and forward-looking rosters for NLDs, Train Examiners, and Supervisors.
- Interpret operational requirements and workforce data to develop safe and compliant rosters.
- Plan and schedule resources to support operational readiness, training, and projects.
- Engage with a wide range of stakeholders including Operational Leaders, Training Teams, and Resource Coordination.
- Proactively identify risks or resourcing gaps and recommend workable solutions.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of planning tools and processes.
What You'll Bring
- Strong organisational and planning skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Confident communicator with experience engaging multiple stakeholders in a complex environment.
- Comfortable working with data, systems, and rostering software (experience with ORTEC or similar is a bonus).
- Experience in rail operations, logistics, or workforce coordination preferred but not essential.
