The role holder is responsible for supporting the management of legal risks and opportunities associated with Anglo American’s marketing business (excluding De Beers) originating in Singapore, in particular those in respect of the Treasury function and structured origination activities.

What you’ll do
Performance & Delivery:
- Support the success of Anglo American providing a wide range of legal advice to the Treasury function and structured origination stakeholders within Anglo American’s marketing business (excluding De Beers).
- Identify key legal and compliance risks and opportunities associated with the marketing business’:
- Treasury activities, including in relation to internal financing and structured trade finance; and
- Structured origination activities, including in relation to financing and offtake transactions.
- Review banking terms and conditions and advise on letters of credit and parent company guarantees, at all times ensuring consistency with Treasury policies, procedures, outstanding authorities, and practices, as well as required internal approvals.
- [Advise on and negotiate ISDAs and manage consequential regulatory status disclosures and in relation to derivative trade reporting in Singapore, under UK EMIR and any other relevant trade reporting regimes.]
- Advise on and negotiate structured trade finance structures, such as commodity-backed structured letters of credit, prepayments and deferred sales, intermediary structures.
- Advise on and negotiate prepayment facilities, long term offtakes, royalties, loan agreements and associated security documents.
- Work closely with the business teams to provide timely and appropriate advice in connection with commercial transactions, projects and strategy developments or any other matters allocated to this role from time to time. Where required, participate in briefings of business unit management and other stakeholders.
- Manage client relationships to deliver high quality/timely advice to the Anglo American Group in relation to its marketing business legal activities.
- Report to client on a regular and consistent basis in relation to progress, costs and issues arising and obtain approval for material decisions in all matters in which the role holder is the lead lawyer.

- Manage the provision of legal services by external lawyers and law firms in a cost-effective manner.

- Contribute to group legal and marketing’s sustainability plans.
Qualifications
What we’re looking for
- Qualified as a solicitor in England & Wales or other relevant common law jurisdiction such as Singapore, Australia or Canada, with minimum 5 years PQE.
- Banking and finance experience, preferably in the mining sector or commodity trading space.
- Experience of handling structured finance and/or project finance transactions in a variety of jurisdictions.
- Broad understanding of financial markets and global corporate treasury operations, for example international cash and liquidity management, banking operations, related process management, credit transactions, factoring, receivables purchase and ICC Uniform Practices.
- Would be preferable to have some knowledge of and experience in supporting supply chain/structured trade financing and ability to advise on and draft appropriate transactional documentation.
- Ability to demonstrate understanding of key issues in a long-term commodity offtake contract.
- Awareness of and ability to recognise anti-trust and compliance issues in commodity contracts.
- In-depth understanding of identifying and mitigating risk.
- Commercial awareness and pragmatism.
- Dispute resolution.
- Experience of working for a global business with operations in diverse locations.
- Commercial understanding of consequences of legal risk and scenarios.
- Knowledge of key compliance areas and market practice.
